Inventory of Waterfront Buildings

In 2004 the Port of Bellingham commissioned RMC Architects and Artifacts Consulting to complete a Due Diligence Report that would provide an inventory and assessment of the historic significance and potential for adaptive reuse of existing buildings within the former Georgia-Pacific site (link to map)

The Due Diligence Report classified 19 buildings out of 50 as having "Reuse Potential" based on assessment of architectural character, structural integrity and historic significance.  18 of the 19 buildings were determined to be eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.

In determining the feasibility of adaptively reusing selected buildings, RMC and Artifacts explored various issues concerning the cultural and historic resources including structural condition of properties, potential renovation costs, preliminary strategic concepts, and development incentives for historic districts.
